"The journey of the Maratha Vidya Prasarak Mandal."

The journey of the Maratha Vidya Prasarak Mandal has been extraordinary. Looking back, the contributions of the elders who paved this path are invaluable.

The term "Maratha" has its own significance in the ancient religions of India. However, the glorious development of the Maratha community began during the reign of Shivaji Maharaj. Shivaji's courage and valor were unmatched, and the key reasons for his rise to greatness were the guidance of his mother Jijabai, Guru Ramdas, and Dadaji Konddev. His achievements in war, patriotism, craftsmanship, education, culture, art, and unity have earned him a prominent place in the world's history.

Anand Rao Bose, Ganapatrao, Ramji Mane, and Amritrao Helle, among others, came together to start a primary school in 1894 with the objective of spreading education.

Even after Shivaji's time, the Marathas continued to care for the education of people from all walks of life. In this regard, the Maratha Vidya Prasarak Mandal was established in 1893. In Dharwad, prominent figures such as Shri Appasaheb Ghorpade, Gajendragadkar, Tatya Rao Pandurang, Savant Bhimrao, Jivaji Mohite, Kedarba Chimmanaji Shinde, Dondiba,

This school was officially registered and recognized by the government. To develop this school, the prominent leaders of the Mandal, not only from Dharwad but also from surrounding villages, collected donations to provide students with meals and financial assistance. However, during this time, a plague epidemic created hindrances to the educational activities.

In 1919, the Maratha Vidya Prasarak Mandal started a hostel, which greatly benefited students from other regions. This hostel was named "Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Maratha Boarding" in honor of the education philanthropist Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur, who provided financial assistance. Many students have studied at this boarding and are now serving in prestigious positions, fulfilling the dreams of their ancestors.

Between 1902 and 1911, the leaders such as Shri Ganapatrao Ramji Mane, Vice President Tatya Rao Pandurang, and others successfully raised funds from industrialists and professionals. During this time, seven English and 13 Kannada students were enrolled. These leaders went door-to-door to emphasize the importance and necessity of education to the people.

In 1912-13, under the leadership of Shri Appasaheb Bhujangarav Ghorpade, the Mandal sought support from the Deccan Association and the Maratha Education Council to provide scholarships to students. Additionally, the Mandal started a charitable reading library and inaugurated a hostel in 1925.

In 1962-63, during the tenure of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then President of India, he visited the Mandal and appreciated its activities, which was a significant recognition. In 1972, during the Maharashtra border issue, the Mandal's assembly hall was set on fire. On the same site, a new assembly hall was constructed under the leadership of Shri Ram Jadhav. Many leaders, such as Shri Shankar Rao Bhosale, Shri Ramchandra Rao Jadhav, Shri H.R. Khire, and Shri Narsing Rao Biji, contributed to the construction. Later, under the leadership of Shri L.D. Bhosale, a well-equipped building with 11 rooms was built. Free books, school fees, school uniforms, and mass weddings were organized for underprivileged Maratha students.

In 2011, during the leadership of Shri M.N. More, the institution aimed to provide higher education and, in 2013, started a degree college. The credit for the construction of a new building for the India High School goes to the leadership of Shri M.N. More and the office bearers.

In January 2016, under the leadership of Shri Manjunath L. Kadam, 15 newly elected directors of the Mandal implemented several significant projects, including the provision of drinking water, the construction of the first-floor building of the high school, school gardens, renovation of furniture, well-equipped staff rooms and school office, construction of an entrance gate for Shri Mata Tuljabhavani Temple, the start of an English medium school, and the renovation of the hostel. "Instead of engaging in a thousand days of study, just one day with a good teacher is enough."
